After a season that saw a set of head injuries potentially threaten his NFL future, former NFL quarterback Michael Vick has given some advice to Miami Dolphins signal caller Tua Tagovailoa.

Last season, Tagovailoa missed multiple games due to concussions, including the Miami Dolphins AFC Wild Card Round game, which they ultimately lost.

In an effort to make sure those sorts of concussions don’t happen again, Vick told Tagovailoa’s teammate Tyreek Hill that the former University of Alabama product needs to add some weight to his frame and improve on avoiding sacks.

“I just think he’s got to bulk up a little bit. Get a little bit bigger. Get stronger. As you grow into your man body, that’s what needs to happen. Ain’t nothing wrong with picking up another 10 pounds, 15 pounds. . . . Don’t get hit. Don’t get knocked around,” Vick said on Hill’s It Needed To Be Said podcast.

The 25-year-old is certainly doing all he can to avoid concussions next season as he’s been taking jiu-jitsu in the offseason to improve how he falls and has also been testing out a new helmet.

If Tua can stay healthy, the Dolphins likely believe they can contend for a playoff spot again as their explosive offensive headed by Tagovailoa, Hill, and Jaylen Waddle proved to be explosive when they’re all on the field together.

Tagovailoa also put up career-best numbers under then-rookie head coach Mike McDaniel last season, as he completed 65% of his passes for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 13 games under rookie head coach Mike McDaniel, which were all career-highs except for completion percentage.

Tua and the Dolphins certainly have their work cut out for them, though, as they not only have to contend with the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East but also the arrival of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets and a New England Patriots team that’s expected to improve, too. In fact, at this time, both the Bills and the Jets have better betting odds to win the Super Bowl than the Miami Dolphins.
