NC State quarterback MJ Morris recently unseated transfer Brennan Armstrong as the starter, leading the Wolfpack to wins over Clemson, Marshall, and Miami.

Morris, just a sophomore, seemed to cement himself as the future of NCSU football under center given the recent performance, but a personal decision has put that in question.

The passer has opted to sit out the remainder of the season, preserving his redshirt after four starts.

In that quartet of games, Morris had thrown for 719 yards and seven touchdowns. More importantly, he’d led the Wolfpack to a 3-1 record with wins over two of the ACC’s premier programs.

This coming after suiting up in a reserve role over the first five contests.

The surprise decision has sparked a major reaction amongst college football fans on social media.

Some foresee a transfer in Morris’s future.

“So, he’s leaving?”

“Who do you think told him to sit out? Hint: his new team.”

“Probably going to tell NC State, ‘I want this, and I want that… if not, see ya!'”

Others believe he’s quitting on the team after its first sign of success.

“Thats a joke to quit this late into the season.”

It is worth noting that the plan prior to season’s start was for Morris to redshirt. In fact, in NC State’s lone blowout this year, the coaching staff put a walk-on in for garbage time as opposed to Morris in order to keep that plan in place.

Obviously, things changed when he became QB1, though his father has been heard saying he’s not leaving the program.

“Nobody said he is leaving the program. If he would have left the program, he would have left in January and he would have left in May. He had plenty of options.” -Eddie Morris

Maybe it’s strictly a business decision.

With MJ Morris out, Brennan Armstrong will reclaim the starting role. It will be interesting to see what Morris’s future holds when the year ends.
