The new MLB uniforms have been criticized by both fans and players since their introduction this 2024 season. They aren’t good, with a number of issues being pinpointed as evidence.

On Tuesday, those getups were back under the spotlight for the wrong reasons after a player’s pants shredded to bits during a slide attempt.

The jerseys, which are designed by Nike and produced by Fanactics, caused all sorts of problems on Opening Day. Those related to both the look and functionality of the uniforms.

In some cases, the tops were a different shade of team color than the bottoms. In others, they seemed to hold sweat, causing players to be absolutely drenched throughout the action.

And then, there’s the overall design, which has been chastised for its small lettering and mismatching fonts. The overwhelming consensus is that the gear looks cheap – which is a terrible look for players competing at the highest level of their sport.

Unfortunately, that narrative would gain even more steam this week.

During a Tuesday afternoon matchup between the Pirates and Tigers, Detroit baserunner Riley Greene came flying down the third base line. After sliding safely into home plate, he hopped up only to see that his pants had completely fallen apart!

Viewers immediately chimed in on social media.

“These MLB uniforms are getting more and more embarrassing.”

“Bring back the old jerseys!”

“These are an absolute joke.”

“He’s going to need a new set of pants!”

Not the best look!

The MLB might have to listen to the criticism and take a second look at the uniforms this offseason. Unfortunately, it seems too late to fix the issue this year!
