Kyle Larson may well be the best driver in NASCAR today.

In fact, Larson has a valid argument as the best driver in any racing series today.

The 30-year-old Californian won the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series championship and has won a series-best 15 races over the last three seasons.

But that’s not all.

Larson, who grew up racing on dirt tracks, has maintained his love of racing on the dirt. He’s continued to do so in recent years and has been downright dominant.

The Hendrick Motorsport star has won a jaw-dropping 28 out of 98 dirt races he’s entered since 2017. That’s an astonishing 28.57 percent rate.

“I said I was gonna slow down some this year. I still have like a hundred races on my schedule,” Larson told BroBible recently. “…But yeah, I will always continue to race dirt cars. Will I race a hundred races plus a year five years from now? I don’t know. Probably not. But I could be. I could be racing more. Who knows? Once I can race with (my son) Owen, in a handful of years, maybe we’ll go off racing a ton. But we’ll see. It’s hard to see the future.”

Larson is even set to run the legendary Indianapolis 500 for the first time in 2024 with the historic McLaren team.

But racing is dangerous, and dirt racing is especially dangerous.

Larson was reminded of that the hard way on Thursday night.

While driving a sprint car in the inaugural Eldora Million at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Ohio, he was caught up in a scary crash that sent him flipping. When his car finally settled, he was then hit by another driver who couldn’t slow down in time.

Thankfully, Larson walked away unscathed.

But it’s hard to imagine NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick was too happy.

Hendrick already watched driver Alex Bowman miss multiple NASCAR races following a sprint car crash. While 2019 series champion Chase Elliott, also a Hendrick driver, missed time following a broken leg while snowboarding.

Coincidentally, the fourth and final Hendrick driver, William Byron, leads the series championship and just won his fourth race of the season.
