Nike is showing no signs of slowing down on their committment to supporting exiled NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Can’t really blame them, as from a business perspective Nike’s shares hit an all time record high after they introduced an ad campaign centered around Kaepernick. This after almost dropping him completely over the summer of 2017, according to the New York Times (via CNBC).
In summer 2017, Nike executives debated dropping their sponsorship, the Times reported. Kaepernick didn’t have a team and keeping him on its roster could diminish its relationship with the NFL, of which Nike is a partner.
So Nike marketers decided to cancel the contract with Kaepernick, according to a former employee.
Nike’s latest move is unveiling a brand new long-sleeve black-on-black Colin Kaepernick ‘Icon Tee’ featuring several of Kaepernick’s logos. The tee also has reflective lettering spelling out “Kaepernick” across the back “to help you stand out,” as Nike’s website puts it.

This is the same shirt that LeBron James debuted prior to a Lakers preseason game earlier this month.
