The New York Yankees are well known for their propensity to make headlines in free agency.

Plenty of the biggest names on their current roster have been acquired through large contract offers to outbid other top teams around the league.

They’ve even already put it on display this offseason when they re-signed Aaron Judge to an enormous contract. That was far from the end of what they have planned for the offseason.

It was reported earlier today that they are interested in signing star pitcher Carlos Rodon after he declined his option to stay with the San Francisco Giants this season. Now they are being lined to an even bigger signing.

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, they are working on another massive move. In an appearance on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard and Dibs”, Olney revealed that the Yankees are the team he is currently watching in the race for Carlos Correa.

This is the second consecutive season that Correa will be one of baseball’s most sought after free agents. Last season he ended up signing a deal with the Minnesota Twins after the lockout put his free agency on hold for months. After one season with the Twins he decided to opt out of the second year of his contract.

Correa put together another solid season during his year in Minnesota, hitting 22 home runs while maintaining a .291 batting average. That batting average was higher than every starter for the Yankees besides Aaron Judge and was much better than the .261 average for the team’s current shortstop.

Adding Correa to a healthy Yankees offense could be just the move they need to make sure their bats don’t falter in the postseason again next season.
