Wimbledon is the premier tennis event of the year. The oldest and greatest championship in tennis is the only of the four grand slams played on grass. London will host the world’s best and most popular players for the next two weeks, and fans will indulge on the traditional strawberries and cream. But, one player they won’t be getting to enjoy is Australian entertainment machine Nick Kyrgios.

Kyrgios is one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour. The 28-year-old has a massive serve, an incredible forehand and moves well for his impressive size for a tennis player. And, his style of play and the way he interacts with the crowd has made him a fan favorite But, he has struggled with his attitude and commitment in the past, especially as a younger player on tour. He’s overcome some of those issues in the past few years, however, and it’s shown in his results.

Nick Kyrgios broke through in a huge way last year, reaching the finals of Wimbledon. In the finals, he lost in a close four-set match to legend Novak Djokovic, but played maybe the best tennis of his career in the process.

Sadly, a knee injury made him withdraw from his national championship, the Australian Open. He missed the French Open too, and now will be missing Wimbledon.

Here are some details, courtesy of the above article.

“I’m really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year,” he posted on Instagram.

“I tried my hardest to be ready after my surgery and to be able to step on the Wimbledon courts again.

“During my comeback, I experienced some pain in my wrist during the week of Mallorca.

“As a precaution I had it scanned, and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist.

History for Djokovic? British glory at Wimbledon?
“I tried everything to be able to play and I am disappointed to say that I just didn’t have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon.”I’ll be back and, as always, I appreciate the support from all my fans.”

The next fortnight truly won’t be the same without him.
