Northwestern, Georgetown Provide Viewers With 30 Seconds Of Hilarity In Grade School Like Sequence

The Northwestern Wildcats are taking on the Georgetown Hoyas in non-conference action as the college basketball season gets in full swing.

Those Wildcats are off to an undefeated start, hoping to make some noise in the Big Ten. Georgetown, though struggling of late, is one of the most storied programs in all of the nation. Unfortunately, the players on the court looked more like grade schoolers on Tuesday night as opposed to Division I athletes.

At least for 30 seconds worth of action.

In an absolutely bizarre sequence, both teams gave the ball up, got it back, and gave it away again to come away with no points on a pair of fast breaks. Players were ducking and diving (and dodging?) in their attempts to gain control of the basketball and put it in the hoop.

We could describe it, but it’s better if you just watch for yourself.

After bringing down a rebound on a Northwestern miss, a Georgetown player loses his balance and falls out of bounds. Before leaving the court of play, he passes to a teammate, which leads to a near steal. The loose ball is then thrown off a defender as another player flies towards the sidelines, which leads to a little offensive action. Finally.

That action doesn’t amount to any points as a layup attempt is blocked and an ensuing full-court pass sails out of bounds. Northwestern had a chance to cap the crazy series with an easy dunk, but a wide-open receiver misplayed the ball, leading to another turnover.

For those keeping track at home, that’s four turnovers and a blocked shot in a matter of 30 seconds. Fittingly, this was all set up by a missed free throw.

The announcers describe it best, saying, “That last sequence was far from a Picasso.”

While it ultimately didn’t lead to any points, it was entertaining to watch. Northwestern would go on to beat Georgetown by a score of 75-63 to move to 3-0 on the new year. Hopefully these two teams can clean up their play as the young season progresses.
