This week, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll let the world know that the team had no interest in trading Russell Wilson. It seemed like it could be enough to stop speculation about Wilson being traded for a while.

However, it seems there is one team in the NFL that wanted to at least try to change their mind. According to Ian Rapoport, the Washington Commanders made a strong offer to the Seahawks to try and acquire Wilson.

Everything we’ve heard from the Commanders recently has made it seem like they’re ready to do whatever they have to in order to acquire a franchise QB. This report is evidence of what that means.

We can only guess at what constitutes a “strong offer” for Russell Wilson, but I have to imagine they were offering up quite a bit. It’s absolutely the right thing to do for Commanders.

If they feel that they are ready to contend, and the talent on their roster indicates that’s the case, then they should be ready to give up whatever it takes to land a QB that gives them a shot at a Super Bowl. Russell Wilson absolutely would have fit the bill.

Unfortunately for the Commanders, it is unclear exactly who they can get now that their approach for Wilson has been rejected. Aaron Rodgers is expected to return to the Packers. Deshaun Watson’s future is still very unclear.

Unless the Commanders have something unexpected up their sleeves, it’s hard to see where they go with Wilson not an option, but at least we now they’re ready to do what they have to in order to land a high-end quarterback.
