After 14 NFL seasons, 10 Pro Bowl appearances, and a Super Bowl victory to his name, it appears that Russell Wilson‘s likely Hall of Fame career has come to an end.
Wilson made his name with the Seattle Seahawks, where he almost immediately became one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks after going in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
But the two sides had an ugly breakup, leading to a trade to the Denver Broncos in 2022. Wilson spent just two difficult seasons in Denver before spending a year in Pittsburgh and then eventually ending his career in New York, where he lost the starting job to rookie Jaxson Dart, but seemingly handled the demotion with class.
While Wilson hasn’t officially announced his retirement, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reports that he’s already negotiating his next job.
Russell Wilson Reportedly Set To Join CBS NFL Pregame Show
Marchand states that Wilson’s representatives are currently negotiating with CBS to get the former star quarterback on “The NFL Today,” CBS’s Sunday NFL pregame show.
Wilson would take the place of Matt Ryan, who spent three seasons with CBS before leaving to become the president of the Atlanta Falcons, with whom he spent the overwhelming majority of his 15-year NFL career.
Multiple reports place Ryan’s salary with CBS in the $5-$6 milllion range. So if Wilson does end up on the network’s pregame show, it will mark a pretty soft landing for the QB, who earned over $315 million playing in the NFL, according to Spotrac.
Wilson had previously considered playing another season in the NFL, and even recently met with the New York Jets to discuss competing for their starting quarterback job alongside Geno Smith.
But ultimately, it sounds like broadcasting is the route he chose, and a deal sounds as if it’s just around the corner.
