An online poker player has been taking his neighbor opponent to the woodshed over the last two months after discovering an edge that made losing nearly impossible, or so one trending Reddit thread suggests. The player admitted to running a covert operation that allowed him to gain insights on his foe’s hands without his knowledge.

The card shark alleges the advantage helped him bank thousands from his matchups with this one singular competitor, and he laid it all out for folks on Reddit this week.

Now, we’ve all heard the gripes from a buddy or acquaintance before.

Online Poker is rigged!

In most cases, you either brush it off as a string of bad luck or advise your friend to stop spending his or her paycheck on a losing venture.

Remember, the house always wins!

But in this case, there really was a victim, only the culprit wasn’t the dealer, but rather the man sitting next to him at the hypothetical table.

Here’s the supposed scenario:

“I live in a large condominium in my city,” a Reddit user with the handle u/ConsistentSymptoms posted. “In December I looked out of my window, and I could see a dude living across the street from me one unit down playing on Pokerstars.

“His monitor is set up so anyone looking in could see his computer screen. With binoculars or my girlfriend’s iPhone, I could see his hole cards from my window, and I’ve just been playing him in cash games for almost 2 months now.

“I’m up thousands of dollars from this one dude cause I’m able to see his cards from my apartment.”

He closes by asking if what he’s been doing is “legal.”

That’s some Connor Stalions type thievery, though a large portion of followers immediately discounted the claim. In an attempt to validate the post, the OP responded in the replies stating exactly how he knew he was sitting at the correct online poker table.

Whether that was enough to sway the minds of doubters, who knows. Meanwhile, a more important debate was raging on in the comments section.

Is it legal?!

Most landed on the side of “Yes,” though that doesn’t mean they approve of the behavior.

“If it’s true you’re an a–hole, regardless of whether it’s legal or not. You play poker assuming that your creepy neighbor isn’t looking through your window with binoculars to cheat.”

“I don’t think it’s illegal, but I do think it’s immoral.”

Of course, there were others who believed it to be fair game.

“It’s the player’s duty to protect his hand.”

“Not doing it would be criminal.”

“Cheating isn’t illegal. I would have done the same.”

If this tale is true, the poster just let everyone in on the ruse. If not, an A+ troll.
