The anticipation amongst basketball fans in Indianapolis has been at a fever pitch ever since it was determined that the Indiana Fever would be getting the first pick in this year’s WNBA draft.

It was a foregone conclusion when that happened that the Fever were going to select Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark to pair with their number one overall pick from 2023 and the 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Aliyah Boston.

So while it was no surprise Monday night when the Fever did, in fact, take Caitlin Clark with the first overall pick in the WNBA draft, it in no way reduced the excitement that was shown by not only Indiana Fever fans, but the players on the team as well.

It wasn’t just Indiana Fever players that were super excited to see Caitlin Clark headed to Indianapolis though.

Several of the Indiana Pacers players including Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner, Jarace Walker, Aaron Nesmith, Obi Toppin and Ben Sheppard also were fired up to have the all-time leading scorer in DI college basketball coming to town.

“What’s up, Caitlin? Welcome to Indy!” Haliburton said in a video shared on the Pacers’ X (Twitter) account following the pick. “Welcome to the squad, so excited to have you here. So excited to watch you and your growth and see you get better. I’m just excited to have you in Indy alongside so yeah, go Fever!”

“Caitlin, what’s going on? Welcome to Indy,” Turner added. “Excited to have you on board. Looking forward to a hell of a season.”

“Caitlin, what it do?! Congratulations, number one pick. I already know what’s poppin’ Welcome to the city, let’s get it,” said Walker.

Not to be left out, the fourth overall pick in the NFL draft in 2023, Anthony Richardson, also welcomed Clark to Indy, with a challenge?

Clark, whose Indiana Fever jersey sold out almost immediately, had a message of her own for all of the Fever fans out there.

“Hey Fever fans, it’s Caitlin Clark. I can’t wait to get to Indianapolis. I know you guys are excited, I am too,” she said in a video shared on the Fever’s X account.
