Anthony Edwards is a human highlight reel and one of the great young players in the NBA, and veteran teammate Pat Beverley thinks Edwards can become the greatest ever.

Beverley has played for three different teams during his 10-year run in the NBA. He’s played with and against the best players in the NBA, but Edwards could develop into the best he’s ever seen, according to Beverley himself.

The NBA vet recently joined J.J. Redick on his ‘Old Man and the Three‘ podcast and flat-out said Edwards could be the next Michael Jordan. Beverley revealed he even told Edwards he could be the next GOAT.

“If I say this, I know you guys are going to look at me like I’m crazy and I’m going to put all that pressure on that kid,” Beverley said. “But I told him, man, you’ve got a chance to be Michael Jordan.”

That’s saying a lot about a second-year player that prior to his draft day admitted that he’s “not really into basketball.” One would assume that if you’re going to reach MJ’s level then you have to love the game, but again, Beverley has seen and played a lot of basketball, so his opinion does hold some weight.

Anthony Edwards Stays Positive

As for what makes Edwards’ ceiling so high, it’s the fact that he doesn’t indulge or focus on anything negative, according to Beverley.

“I’ve been around a lot of [players], and the kid doesn’t indulge in anything negative. J.J., you know what I mean, off the court he doesn’t indulge in anything negative — just all positivity, all video games,” Beverley explained. “His talent level and skill level, it’s crazy, he has the chance to be really, really, really special.”

Edwards is averaging over 20 points per game this season for Minnesota and has slightly increased his shooting percentage from year one to year two. He’ll need to make quite the jump in year three to get anywhere close to the trajectory Beverley sees in his future.

Jordan went from averaging 22 points per game in his second year in the league to 37 points per game in year three.
