Baseball viewers were treated to an unanticipated interruption in Wednesday night’s NLDS matchup between the Dodgers and Padres. A goose flew onto the field of play, plopping down in the shallow outfield grass to take in a few pitches.

The bird took social media by storm, with fans and media reacting to seeing the unexpected bystander.

The Los Angeles grounds crew eventually removed the goose in between innings, escorting it off the field in a towel and plastic trash bin. That removal has now sparked an investigation.

PETA commented on Twitter that it’s actively looking into the goose’s whereabouts, contacting the Dodgers’ staff to ask about the team’s handling of the bird after its removal from the field.

We saw an inspection into a sticky substance on the ears of Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove in the Padres first playoff series. The second set brought about a completely different kind of investigation.

While many on social media laughed at the goose’s appearance in the game, there were some wondering what happened after it was taken off the field.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has been responding to the replies of those worried social media users.

There has been no further comment from either PETA or the Dodgers on the situation at this time.

As for the ball game, the Padres would break a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning with an RBI single from outfielder Jurickson Profar. They’d extend that lead to 5-3 after Jake Cronenworth’s eighth-inning homer, which would be the final score.

The series is now tied at a game apiece as the teams head to San Diego. Game 3 in the NLDS is scheduled for Friday.
