Pete Carroll will no longer be the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. The franchise announced a decision to part ways on Wednesday, though they left the door open for a move into the front office.

“We have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an advisor,” a statement from the team read.

Shortly after that news broke, rumors began to spread. Where does Seattle go from here?

Dan Quinn was named a “leading candidate” for the opening, though a number of other options remain on the table. Could the Seahawks hire from within? Could they dip into the college ranks as they did with Carroll 14 years ago?

Time will tell.

What was most interesting about the announcement, however, was that possibility of Carroll remaining with the team as an advisor. Seattle seems open to a transition into the front office, but their former head coach doesn’t sound interested.

In a Wednesday press conference, Carroll addressed the media to talk about both the past and the future.

At one point, he seemed adamant about continuing to coach.

“That’s it for now,” Carroll closed. “I’m freakin’ jacked, I’m fired up. I’m not tired. I’m not worn down… What’s coming? I don’t know. I’ve got no idea, and I really don’t care right now, but I’m excited about it.”

That certainly doesn’t sound like someone that’s ready to step away from coaching.

Could he move on to another organization in the future?

What about a return to the NCAA? One massive job just opened up…

Carroll isn’t quite sure what lies ahead, but it doesn’t sound like being a head coach is off the table.
