PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan personally handed Tiffany & Co. cufflinks to golfers making their Players Championship debuts this week at TPC Sawgrass, and the Tour decided to have some fun in the process.

Shortly after the first-timers were handed their signature Tiffany blue boxes, Phil Marburger of player relations made the rounds to deliver the ‘bad news.’ He even had fake bills printed ouot, handing them to players saying that they have to pay over $8,000 for their gifts.

Some players took the fake news much better than others. Sahith Theegala, for example, couldn’t be nicer about having to pay $8,000 for a set of cufflinks he didn’t ask for. Stephan Jaeger, last year’s Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year, wasn’t having it, however.

“I don’t want any cufflinks, I’m out, I’m not paying for any f–king cufflinks,” Jaeger told Marburger.

Jaeger’s reaction comes at the 1:45 mark of the video below.

It goes without saying that having to pay for a gift you’ve been given is unheard of, but with it being cufflinks from a very well-known brand at one of golf’s biggest events, it’s not the craziest thing imaginable.

For anyone curious, Tiffany & Co. sells their men’s cufflinks for $350, not $8,000.
