PGA Waste Management Open Stops Alcohol Sales And Prevents Fans From Entering Due To Rowdy Crowds

There are countless holes and places in the game of golf that highlight the calendar each year.

There’s Amen Corner at Augusta. The Bear Trap at PGA National. The island green at TPC Sawgrass.

But none of them match up to atmosphere at the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale for the annual Waste Management Open.

Home to numerous incredible moments, the 16th at TPC Scottsdale is the reason the course itself is often referred to as The Stadium Course.

The hole itself can seat as many as 20,000 fans at one time and often hosts thousands of students from nearby Arizona State University.

But this isn’t just any old golf hole. The fans are loud, rowdy, and unafraid to let you know if you’ve hit a bad shot. Last year’s event even featured a Post Malone concert at the hole.

On Saturday, however, those fans may just have stepped over the line.

The scene in Scottsdale got so rowdy that area police closed the gates to the course, even barring fans who already had a ticket.

But that’s not all.

Claire Rogers of Golf.com reports that the event had to cut off all alcohol sales due to the crazy scene.

Fans Runs Onto Course And Dives Into Bunker At PGA Waste Management Open

Golf influencer Paige Spiranac even shared a video of one fan who took things a step too far, running onto the course and doing a somersault into a greenside bunker.

The 16th at Scottsdale is a special place. And we’d never want it to change. But fans like this who go over the line could force the course, or the PGA, to rein things in a little.

They’ve already had to take unprecedented measures to keep things from getting out of hand. And these are professional golfers with a job to do.

At some point, there needs to be some sort of common sense applied, even if fans are several beers deep.
