Philadelphia Phillies Fans Go To Hilarious Lengths To Keep Diamondbacks Ball Park Empty For Game 3 Of The NLCS

For better or worse, Philadelphia Phillies fans are just built a little bit differently.

They’ve proved as much throughout the Phillies’ MLB playoff runs each of the last two post seasons.

But it doesn’t just stop with showing up to support their team.

For some fans, supporting the Phillies means buying tickets to a game 2,300 miles away that you have no intention to go to, just to give your team a slight edge.

That’s right. Phillies fans are buying up a number of tickets for Thursday’s NLCS Game 3 not so they can attend, but simply so they can keep Arizona fans from doing so.

In fact, one fan purchased tickets all the way from Australia.

That’s a level of pettiness that we can all aspire to.

“I bought four tickets that I won’t be sitting in and that’s just to keep it quiet and empty there,” Patrick from Australia told sports radio WIP hosts Hugh Douglas and Joe Giglio on Thursday’s Midday Show. “It became more expensive because of the exchange right, because our dollar is not so good right now. They were 12 bucks each, so in the end they were about 75 bucks. It’s my contribution to the world series, hopefully victory. And yeah, grew up in Philly…Just thought let’s keep this place quiet. However, if there’s anybody in Arizona that’s a Phillies fans I’ll give them to them.”

Phillies fans bought so many tickets at Chase Field that it actually drove up the market rate. At one point, tickets were listed on resale sites for as low as $10.

At the time of writing, SeatGeek lists the get-in price for Thursday’s night’s game at $28.

That’s not exactly encouraging for a Diamondbacks team looking to dig out of an 0-2 hole in the series and with rookie Brandon Pfaadt, who had a 5.72 ERA this season, on the mound.
