Poker player Jared Griener claims someone hog-tied him and robbed him of his winnings from the World Series of Poker at his Las Vegas Airbnb this week.
Griener, who finished in 218th place in a $10K World Series of Poker Main Event, received a reward of $57,500 for his effort. He claims that when he got back to his Airbnb, two masked individuals tackled him to the ground, tied him up and took his backpack, which contained his earnings.
“I was hog tied and stuck there for a while trying to escape and finally got out and ran out of the house to a neighbor to call 911,” Jared Griener wrote in a series of posts on X. “Luckily I am physically unharmed. This was the most terrifying and traumatic experience of my life. All my $ is gone.
“These people knew the door code to my Airbnb, they were waiting for me inside and video surveillance from neighbors showed they arrived at the Airbnb 10 minutes before me.
“It’s likely someone was watching me at @wsop and knew that I was on my way home with cash. Las Vegas detectives are currently investigating.”
Griener, who has won $1.8 million in the World Series of Poker, according to its website, added that he was able to “wriggle out” of the restraints after about 15 minutes.
Security footage appears to corroborate some of his story
He claims that security footage from a neighbor showed the men arriving roughly 10 minutes before he got there. News 3 obtained neighborhood camera footage that appears to show two males arriving in a car prior to the alleged robbery. The footage shows the men parking the car around the corner, strolling toward the house, and then casually getting back into the car about 20 minutes later.
In Ring doorbell footage that News 3 obtained, Griener repeatedly pounds on a home’s door across the street while barefoot and with duct tape wrapped around his right arm.
“Please help me. Someone just broke into the house across the street and f—— robbed me,” he said in the footage. “They took my phone. They took everything I have. They tied me up. I just got out. Can you call 911? If you’re there, please. Please help me.”
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a report of robbery at the address where Griener was staying. They have not made any arrests yet.
“Safety is a top priority for us, and while incidents are rare, we take them seriously,” the Los Angeles Times reported Airbnb said in a statement. “The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating this report, and we stand ready to support that investigation.”
