You always need to keep your head on a swivel when you attend a baseball game in person, as you never know when a ball is going to head your way. There have been a number of instances where fans have managed to grab a souvenir with the help of a cup or a tray, but a spectator at a recent Red Sox game may be the first person to ever use fried dough as a glove to get one.
Baseball is really the only sport where fans need to be worried about dangerous projectiles flying into the stands on a regular basis. There are plenty of kids who bring a glove to the ballpark in the hopes of grabbing a ball, but the stigma surrounding adults who do the same means most people are going to need to resort to their bare hands if one comes their way.
With that said, there are some other methods you can deploy if you decide to shell out for some overpriced concessions at a baseball game, as evidenced by a number of fans who’ve managed to catch a ball in a cup of beer before commencing the customary chug.
That very situation has unfolded on at least one occasion at Fenway Park, but a guy who attended Thursday’s showdown between the Red Sox and the Blue Jays at that historic venue inadvertently introduced a revolutionary new approach with the help of a deep-fried dessert covered in powdered sugar.
Toronto’s Bo Bichette was at the plate in the top of the sixth when he sent a foul ball into the stands on the first base side of home plate and in the direction of a guy who was chowing down on the hunk of fried dough he used to catch it before showing off his prize.
