Ron ‘Wolverine’ Bata is eager to put his rivalry with Austin Turpin behind him.

On Friday, April 12th, the Wolverine will return to defend his Power Slap light heavyweight championship in a rematch against Turpin.

After defending his title and defeating Turpin via a 3-2 unanimous decision in their first match, Bata is not happy that his opponent is getting an immediate rematch.

“In no sport that I can remember, UFC, boxing, nothing, number one contender loses and immediately gets a rematch. Usually that’s saved for the champion to get an immediate rematch against the number one contender if he had lost.”

“So for him to get the immediate rematch, yeah, it’s kind of aggravating, but hoping to win again, and then I’ll just shut him down. And, I mean, you lose twice in a row to the champion. You’re pretty much done for a while until either I step down or until I lose the belt.”

Wolverine has used the time in between matches to better prepare for his opponent in hopes of not leaving any doubt of who the winner is this time around.

“It’s different this time around. Last time, I was trying to get in shape, get cut, work on my physical appearance, you know, and I was trying to work on speed and power for the arm swing.”

“This time around with it being a rematch, and I know he’s got a decent chin. I’m just trying to work on pure strength. So, I mean, I haven’t really been working on trying to look good or nothing. I’ve just been working on just hitting harder.”

Things got a bit heated between Wolverine and Turpin in their first match.

The usually calm champion explained why he was so animated during his last match.

“During the weigh-ins and stuff he had said that he didn’t care if I was a nice, calm guy. You know, he’s going to put my a– down. He said he’s going to knock Rhonda’s b— a– out.”

“So, I just wanted to show him I don’t have to be that nice, calm guy. I can be, you know, an arrogant ass— as well. But, I don’t prefer doing that. I was just trying to show him that I can be something different. But, that’s not me and that won’t be this time around either. I’m going to be back to my calm self.”

The light heavyweight champ plans on retaining his title with a KO finish against Turpin on April 12th.

‘Before the last match, I told him I wanted to take him all five rounds just to show him I can beat him. I think he beat me one of the five rounds. But, this time around, I’m going to put him down in probably about the third round.’
