The Unione Sportiva Salernitana 1919 soccer team fanbase is going viral this week for an incredible, crowd-choreographed Pink Floyd tribute. Attendees unveiled an amazing tifo ahead of a meeting with Inter Milan.

The display quickly made its way around the internet as fans and followers reacted on social media.

A tifo is “a visual display of any choreographed flag, sign or banner in the stands of a stadium, mostly as part of an association football match.” The phenomenon was said to have originated in Italy, the home country of US Salernitana.

On Saturday, the crowd paid homage to the legendary rock band and the 50th anniversary of its most popular album, The Dark Side of the Moon.

In the Pink Floyd tribute, you’ll see references to The Division Bell, The Wall, “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” and the distinctive Dark Side prism so recognized in pop culture.

The tifo likely spurned from Salernitana’s location and a notable nearby attraction. The club plays about 25 miles outside of Pompeii, where the band filmed its epic “Live at Pompeii” concert in 1972.

The main footage of that concert takes place at the Roman amphitheater as the English rockers perform with the historic city as a backdrop, though no audience was in attendance.

That close proximity links the club and the band together, but unfortunately for US Salernitana, the Pink Floyd tribute wouldn’t help them on the field. The team fell to Inter Milan 4-0 on Saturday, which keeps them in the bottom half of the Serie A standings.

Still, the scenes were incredible despite the loss as the fanbase collects a major “W” off the pitch.
