Scottie Scheffler Ends Consecutive Rounds Under Par Streak In Most Painful Way

Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer on the planet right now, and it isn’t close. He’s been on a historic tear to start the season.

Scheffler has already won twice in 2024,  with back-to-back wins in his two previous starts at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship. Plus, in the 1st round of the Texas Children’s Houston Open on Thursday, shot a five-under 65 to record his record 28th straight round under par.

The vast majority of golfers will never break par once, and Scheffler has done it 28 straight times on some difficult courses. Heading into the final hole of his 2nd round on Friday, he was -2 for the round.

Then, disaster struck.  Scheffler’s long approach shot from the fairway of the 492-yard par 4 18th hole at Memorial Park Golf Course found the right green side bunker with the pin on the right side. Scheffler pitched out to six feet and had that putt for par and a 68. But, Scheffler’s putting, the weak point of his game, hurt him tremendously.

Scheffler three-putted from close range, including a brutal miss for bogey to end his streak.

Agh. C’mon, Scottie. That’s something you just can’t do.  And, it’s a terrible way to end a pretty incredible streak. Still, he sits only four back of leader Tony Finau as he looks for his third-straight win as we get closer to The Masters.  Scheffler has not finished worse than T17 in any tournament this year.

I’m sure that those short misses will fuel him to a low score on Saturday.
