Scottish Soccer Fans Hire Massive Fleet Of School Buses To Avoid Getting Gouged During World Cup

Many fans who attend World Cup games in the United States this summer will have to stomach some outrageous prices just to travel to the stadium where they’re being held. However, an enterprising group of people planning to support Scotland in person has come up with a solid workaround in the form of a massive fleet of school buses that will even have a police escort.

The cost of World Cup tickets has been a very hot topic of discussion leading up to the event that will officially kick off on June 11th, but that’s far from the only cost most spectators will have to deal with over the course of a tournament that will unfold at stadiums in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

A very sizable chunk of people who attend matches at MetLife Stadium (which will be known as “New York New Jersey Stadium” during the tournament) will be traveling there from New York City, and NJ Transit caught plenty of heat for charging $150 for train tickets to the venue before lowering the price to a still outrageous $105 earlier this week.

Gillette Stadium will also be the host of seven World Cup games, and while it will be rebranded as “Boston Stadium,” that name is not reflective of the place where it’s actually located. Fans who are relying on public transportation for the approximately 30-mile trek from Beantown to Foxborough can buy a round-trip commuter rail ticket for $80, which is slightly less expensive than a $95 bus ride that’s also an option.

Some Scottish fans will also be relying on a bus to take them there, but they’ll be paying significantly less due to the creative solution they dreamed up.

Scottish soccer fans hired 20 school buses to cut down on transportation costs during the World Cup

It takes about the same amount of time to get to Foxborough from Providence as it does to travel there from Boston, and according to the BBC, some fans from Scotland decided to make Rhode Island’s capital city their base during the tournament.

They decided to explore their options when it came to figuring out how to get to the games the team will be playing during the opening stage (a showdown with Haiti on June 13 and another with Morocco six days later), and they stumbled upon a bargain after inquiring about the possibility of renting school buses.

The group ended up booking 20 of those vehicles for the price of $38 per passenger, and they were also able to land a police escort for the journey from the pickup area to the ramp that will put them onto I-95.

It’s unclear how much they paid for tickets to the games, but the price of the ride to them is a fraction of what you’d currently have to pay on the secondary market to gain admission.

Well played.
