The 2026 Wimbledon Championships just took on a whole new level of intrigue with the stunning news that Serena and Venus Williams will team up yet again to compete as a wild card team in the women’s doubles tournament.

The two superstar sisters have won the women’s singles tournament 12 times, with Serena winning seven and Venus five. Meanwhile, they’ve also won the doubles tournament six times as a duo, with victories in both 2000 and 2002 as a wild card entrant.

However, their last championship at the event came all the way back in 2016. Now, 44-year-old Serena and 45-year-old Venus look to shock the world again on tennis’ biggest stage.

Should they somehow find a win, Serena and Venus would absolutely destroy the previous record for combined age of winners, which was set by Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strýcová in 2023 at 74 years and 303 days .

Venus Williams Returns To Save Serena’s Comeback Attempt

Serena Williams recently made a surprise comeback at the HSBC Championships in doubles action with 19-year-old Victoria Mboko. However, her return was cut short when Mboko, who is ranked No. 9 in the world in singles, had to withdraw from the tournament due to injury.

“I don’t know, I had nothing better to do. I got tired of sitting at home. My kids are out of school for the summer, so why not?” Williams said when asked why she returned. “I never got to play here; it was always just the men. It feels really special to play somewhere so iconic.”

She then teamed with Czech star Karolina Muchova at this week’s Berlin Open, but the pair was eliminated in straight sets in the round of 16.

However, she now returns to the biggest tournament in tennis alongside her most famous partner, and there’s no doubt that the whole world will be watching to see what they can do.
