The Indiana Fever entered the 2026 WNBA season with many believing they were championship contenders after winning the Commissioner’s Cup and reaching the semifinals of the playoffs a year ago.

However, through the first quarter of the season, Indiana is just 6-5, which is tied for the sixth-best record in the 15-team league. And while a healthy Caitlin Clark was supposed to be a huge boost to the Fever after playing just 13 games a year ago, that hasn’t been the case thus far.

Clark has struggled mightily, by her own high standards, and rumors have begun to swirl about a rift between her and head coach Stephanie White.

She attempted to shut down those rumors recently, stating that, “I ride for Steph. I ride for these girls. Steph has my back more than anybody. Nobody in our locker room, or Steph, or our coaching staff thought twice about it” after an in-game argument between the two.

However, thanks to teammate Sophie Cunningham, the rumors are swirling again.

Sophie Cunningham And Caitlin Clark Ignored Stephanie White To Beat The Mystics!

Clark had perhaps her best moment of the young season on Monday night when she hit a deep 3-pointer with just over one second remaining to beat the Washington Mystics, 78-76.

However, what initially looked like a well-designed sideline out-of-bounds play by White turned out to be a moment of improvisation between Cunningham, the inbounder, and Clark.

Cunningham took to Instagram after the game to celebrate and share some photos from the win. The last of the images was an altered photo of White speaking to Clark and Cunningham and asking if they “followed the plan.”

Cunningham added the text, “Didn’t follow the plan…won anyway.”

Now, the fact that they won anyway probably keeps White off their backs. However, Cunningham’s inbound pass was very nearly intercepted, and had that happened, it would have been a brutal look.

You also have to wonder if it’s a sign of things to come with Fever players going rogue on the head coach.

What do you think? Is this a big deal? Or is it just two players having fun after a big win? Let us know in the comments below.
