Stephen A. Smith took some time out of his busy ESPN schedule this week to hop on camera with Jake Paul. Paul is currently 5-0 as a boxer (4 KOs) and is consistently running his mouth about wanting to fight an established boxer.
In Jake Paul’s defense, many people in the fighting world believe he’s a serious boxer. Joe Rogan believes that Jake would actually perform well against an established boxer. But Jake can’t seem to get any big names to take him seriously…
On camera with Stephen A. Smith, Jake Paul discusses wanting to fight Canelo Alvarez, a boxer with titles in 4 different weight classes and Stephen A. starts yelling in no time at all. Here’s the back-and-forth with the video below.
Stephen A. Smith Absolutely Eviscerates Jake Paul To His Face
Stephen A. Smith: “I will say this, here’s what I will get on you about… I hope you don’t think you’re ready for some guy like Canelo Alvarez. You ain’t that crazy, are you?”
Jake Paul: “I am beyond ready. In all seriousness, I’ll beat Canelo Alvarez.”
Julia: “God, Stephen A, you’re not happy with anything. First, you’re ‘get in there with a real opponent’ then you’re like ‘oh, you’re not ready for Canelo, you’re not that crazy. Make up your mind.’
Stephen A. Smith: “Excuse me, excuse me what is your name again? Julia? Julia, I appreciate your passion. Thank you very much, but I have to say this to you: There is a middle ground.”
“I mean, you can’t sit up there and say I’m not happy with anything ’cause I’m like ‘get in there with a real boxer’ but in the same breath I’m like ‘you ain’t ready for a WORLD CHAMPION.’ I mean, that’s not an insult. I’m not insulting you, I’m not saying you’ll never be ready for him. But you don’t go from fighting UFC fighters to Canelo Alvarez.”
After all that, Jake Paul fired back with “but I’m beating world champions in sparring” to which Stephen A. Smith responded “okay, I didn’t know that. Who? Who?” and the conversation went off the rails from there. It turns to Jake Paul listing off all the reasons he believes he can beat Canelo Alvarez who has won boxing titles in four different weight classes.
