This time last year Tiger Woods arrived at Riviera Country Club as host of the Genesis Invitational and announced he had recently undergone what was his fifth back surgery. This year he returns as the host after a life-threatening car crash lucky to still have his right leg.
February 23 will mark the one-year anniversary of Woods’ single-car crash in which he suffered multiple injuries that resulted in a number of different procedures.
On the Wednesday prior to the first round of this year’s Genesis, Woods spoke with the media for the first time since December when he teed it up in the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie.
Woods offered updates about his injuries, his recovery process, and was of course asked multiple times in various ways to hint at when we might see him back on the PGA Tour. He made it very clear that he’s nowhere close to making a return, but he also made it clear that he will one day be back on Tour.
Tiger on his recovery: "I wish I could tell you when I'll play again, but I don't…I haven't done any of the long stuff seriously. I'm still working on the walking part.
"My foot was a little messed up there a year ago, so the walking part…it still takes time."

Woods’ body language was good throughout the press conference as he made multiple jokes with reporters as he reflected on what has physically been the most difficult year of his life.
While golf fans around the world wished he stepped up to the podium and announced that he’ll be playing in this April’s Masters, Woods made it clear that that wasn’t in the cards.
Woods may not have a timeframe or specific tournament in mind in which he could make his return, but him emphatically saying that he will one day be back on Tour is certainly a positive.
