Deion Sanders Lands His Biggest Fish Yet As Colorado Head Coach On Early National Signing Day

For all the hype surrounding his move from Jackson State to Colorado, Deion Sanders faces an uphill battle rebuilding the Buffaloes’ football program.

Colorado has not made a bowl since 2016 and won just one game in 2022. The Buffs were, by far, the worst program in the Pac-12 this past season.

A big part of those struggles was the lack of talent on the roster. According to 247Sports.com, Colorado had just two recruiting classes ranked in the top 50 in the country in the last four years. A 36th-ranked class in 2020 is the highest of those four years and was buoyed by a large transfer haul.

But now Coach Prime is at the helm and things are expected to be different. Sanders is already working on cleaning house with the Buffs and bringing in his own players. After flipping running back Dylan Edwards from Notre Dame and landing a number of transfers, Sanders already has the No. 29-ranked class in the country for 2023.

A big part of that is the crown jewel that Sanders added to the class on National Signing Day on Wednesday. Though it wasn’t a high school recruit.

Jackson State Star Cornerback Travis Hunter Announces Transfer To Colorado

When Sanders took the Buffs job, he told current Colorado players that he was bringing a number of Jackson State players with him. One of those players was his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The other big name, however, was cornerback Travis Hunter.

Hunter shocked the world a year ago when he decommitted from Florida State on signing day to sign with Sanders and the Tigers. Now it appears he’s ready to follow the Pro Football Hall of Famer to Boulder.

Hunter challenged fans to get him to 100,000 YouTube subscribers and said that he when they did, he would announce his transfer destination.

It didn’t take him to long to reach that goal.

Hunter eclipsed 100K later that evening and, unsurprisingly, announced his intention to follow Sanders to Colorado. The move gives the Buffs a bonafide star in the former No. 1 overall recruit and gives Sanders yet another selling point as he tries to build the program from the ground up.
