ESPN commentator and NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman is taking aim at beer brands pretending to be patriotic ahead of the 4th of July holiday.

Aikman, who owns the beer company EIGHT, has taken shots at beer brands like Bud Light that have found themselves in hot water while trying to take on polarizing positions with their marketing campaigns.

Aikman believes most consumers just want a company that isn’t phony, and most importantly, makes a good product.

“With so many of these companies coming out with bold, oftentimes polarizing positions, and they lack authenticity, and it’s really just trying to gain market share. I think people see through that.”

“I think they just want companies that are focused on the brands themselves, they don’t want brands that are trying to get political, we’re certainly not. We don’t want to be a part of any debate outside of someone drinking EIGHT beers while they’re having a discussion is really our perspective.”

Now Aikman is going after beer brands that are being fake patriotic and trying to cash in on the 4th of July holiday by “slapping an American flag on their package” for marketing purposes.

“At EIGHT, we believe in truth and authenticity. Our company is proudly based right here in Texas and all of our beer is brewed right here in the good ‘ol USA. So, I’ve gotta call it like it is. There are a lot of beer brands out there that are trying to cash in on this holiday by slapping an American flag on their package. Regardless of whether or not they are truly American. So this July 4th, drink American – whether it’s EIGHT beer or any other American owned beer brand. And on behalf of all of us out here, we appreciate your support. Cheers,” \
