Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr will go down as one of the greatest coaches of all time. The man who helped unlock the Splash Brothers in Steph Curry and Klay Thompson will always have a place in NBA history.

Steve Kerr has been the coach in Golden State since the 2014-2015 season. Now, the team has ensured that Kerr will remain the coach there for years to come.

The Warriors and Kerr agreed to a monster extension, which was reported on Friday.

That makes Steve Kerr the highest-paid coach in the NBA, an honor he definitely deserves.

When Kerr took over for Mark Jackson, a frisky Warriors team became the best team in the league overnight. They won the NBA Title in three of his first four seasons. The only season they didn’t win, 2015-2016, was the year they won an NBA-record 73 games in the regular season.

Kerr’s most impressive title wasn’t any of those three. Rather, it was their title in the 2021-2022 season. With his core of Curry, Thompson, and Draymond Green aging, Kerr did his best coaching job of his career. He coaxed contributions out of role players like Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole and others as the Warriors stormed through the Western Conference and beat the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.

It’s hard to see Steph Curry playing for a different coach at any point the rest of his career than Steve Kerr. The two seem to be almost always in lockstep. They’ve certainly had a mutually beneficial relationship.

I’m sure that Kerr, whose contract was set to expire, had received overtures from companies with broadcast rights with the NBA. After all, the former Chicago Bull sharpshooter was working for TNT before Golden State bucked tradition and hired him as head coach despite no coaching experience.

Steve Kerr also currently serves as the head coach at USA Basketball. He will lead the team in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Currently, Golden State sits at 28-26, good for the final Play-In spot in the Western Conference.
