It appeared the New York Jets would once again be the center of controversy after reports broke that owner Woody Johnson and head coach Robert Saleh had gotten in a verbal fight at the NFL Owner’s Meeting this week.

But, after being called about by Woody Johnson, the NFL Network journalist who reported the story has apologized for creating a distraction.

Colleen Wolfe of NFL Network reported the “very heated conversation” between the two. And, why wouldn’t people believe her, considering that she’s an acclaimed journalist that obviously has huge connections in the league and could have even witnessed the conversation?

Plus, the Jets always have crazy news stories coming out of that franchise. Whether it’s the quarterback saga, the MetLife turf, or traditional Jets chicanery, it’s not hard to believe bad things said about the franchise.

Woody Johnson took to Twitter on Thursday to try to dispel rumors of a spat with his coach, and did so forcefully.

“Yet another irresponsible report from NFL Network” is incredibly strong language, considering NFL Network is controlled by the league as a whole. Either Wolfe just made it up, or he’s trying to cover up a legitimate argument. https://twitter.com/woodyjohnson4/status/1773420725379923978

On Thursday evening, Wolfe put out a statement on the incident that appears to admit she probably shouldn’t have reported the story, since she had little firsthand evidence of it. Take a look.

This statement is fishy. If her intent wasn’t to break news, why would she say it? And, if it was something she didn’t see firsthand, why not corroborate with a lot of sources before publicly reporting it? It’s not her best work, that’s for sure.

I’m sure everyone can move on from this, but this seems unfair to Woody Johnson, Robert Saleh, and the New York Jets.
