Restaurants in World Cup host cities are fighting back against foreigners, who are not used to tipping customs in the United States.
For the past month, fans from around the world have slammed cities across the United States.
Unfortunately, restaurants in host cities are complaining about World Cup fans not tipping.
The NY Post spoke with one waitress at a NYC hotspot, who explained the situation.
“Everyone has been really sweet . . . they’re loud and happy, very nice,” Daggett told The Post. But many are baffled by the American ritual of signing receipts and calculating tips.
“It’s very different. And a lot of people haven’t been leaving tips,” she said.
According to the New York Post, several restaurants across the host cities have been adding 20 percent automatic tips to the total bill for customers.

Restaurants in places such as Kansas City, Atlanta and Philadelphia have begun adding automatic 20% gratuities to checks, during the tournament, according to industry groups and restaurant operators.
Supporters say the move is intended to protect American servers who rely heavily on gratuities and avoid confusion for visitors unfamiliar with American tipping norms.
World Cup fans on social media are not happy about automatically being charged 20 percent.
“The problem about the american culture around tipping is that it would potentially make some sort of sense if there was the option for me to go and take the food myself, hence tipping only for the convenience as service. In reality is just convienience for the employer.” said one fan on X.
‘Imma be real, it’s not my problem you can’t pay your employees right,” commented another fan.
Hopefully American tipping culture doesn’t put a sour note on what has been an amazing World Cup for fans visiting from abroad.
