It’s been a pretty rough season (or lack thereof) for Zion Williamson, as the Pelicans big man already had plenty of things on his plate (with the exception of the food the team has reportedly tried to take off of it) before being served another heaping scoop of criticism this week after JJ Redick tore into him for his noncommital attitude toward the sport he’s been sidelined from since the middle of last year.
The team that signed him to a four-year, $44 million contract in 2019 didn’t do much to quell speculation about his future in New Orleans when it recently sent out a season ticket email that was suspiciously absent of any reference to the man who was formerly a shoo-in to replace Anthony Davis as their franchise player.
Thanks to a number of reports that have surfaced in recent months, Williamson has given Pelicans fans plenty of ammunition to use when it comes to venting their frustration with the former Blue Devil who was initially marketed as a generational superstar—and a few of them decided to fire some shots at him on Thursday night.
Mardi Gras doesn’t officially kick off until Fat Tuesday [insert some variation of “Every Tuesday is Fat Tuesday for Zion!” joke here], but a number of “krewes” have already taken to the streets in New Orleans to gear up for the festivities.
That includes a collective known as the Knights of Chaos, which paraded through the city atop a number of satirical floats—including one dubbed “Setback” that did not hold back when it came to targeting Williamson.

Zion can at least take some solace in knowing he wasn’t alone, as Drew Brees and Ed Orgeron also had their own dedicated roastmobiles.
