Being compared to Tom Cruise is something that most actors can only dream of, and yet that’s exactly what has happened to Alan Ritchson ever since he started playing Jack Reacher on the hit Prime Video series Reacher.

Based on the Lee Child-written novels, Reacher was previously portrayed by Tom Cruise in a pair of (underrated, at least the first) films in 2014 and 2016: Jack Reacher (directed by Cruise’s Mission: Impossible collaborator Christopher McQuarrie) and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (which was actually helmed by Blood Diamond filmmaker Edward Zwick).

During a recent interview, Ritchson was asked about being compared to the legendary movie star and wisely painted the comparisons as a massive compliment.

“Being compared to the most legendary actor of all time? The last film star? I would never tire of being compared to somebody of his stature. Look, he did his thing. He brought a lot of eyes to this project that wouldn’t be here otherwise. There’s some great IP. The books are great, a lot of people have read them and enjoy the show because of them. But I think a lot of people enjoy the show because he made them aware of it,” Ritchson said in a recent interview.

Alan Ritchson has had a hell of a year, as the second season of Reacher has not only premiered to virtually unanimous praise, but he also made his debut in the Fast franchise with his role in Fast X and is getting fan cast in both Marvel and DC roles such as Sentry and Batman, respectively.

Season two of Reacher, which has already been renewed for a third season, premiered on Prime Video on Friday, December 15. The second season consists of eight episodes and is scheduled to conclude on Friday, January 19.
