Elon Musk has been promoting Armie Hammer's controversial new movie 'Citizen Vigilante'

Actor Armie Hammer has distanced himself from Citizen Vigilante, the banned German movie he starred in that’s since been promoted by Elon Musk and other conservative influencers. Citizen Vigilante was banned from being released in its native Germany due to its depiction of violence against immigrants.

Citizen Vigilante — the Uwe Boll-directed anti-migrant action film that became one of the most controversial releases of the year after Elon Musk posted it in full to X/Twitter for 48 hours — has reportedly left its star in tears.

According to Puck News reporter Kim Masters, a source in Armie Hammer’s camp says the actor was horrified when he finally saw the finished film.

Armie Hammer reportedly called Citizen Vigilante “hateful” and “disgusting” after seeing the finished film, saying it wasn’t the movie he thought he made

“The first time he saw it, he was in tears. And not tears of joy. He called me and said, ‘F—. This is hateful, disgusting,’” a source told Puck News.

The source also claimed that while Hammer understood the project “leaned toward the right,” he claims he had no idea how far the finished film went.

“I think he knew it certainly leaned toward the right, but Uwe works in a very frantic way. It’s not like he sent him a hundred-page script. When he saw the final product, he was, ‘That was not the movie I thought we made,’ and he freaked the f— out,” the source added.

European actors such as Costas Mandylor, Désirée Giorgetti, Steffen Mennekes, Neb Chupin and Mukit Abdul Hamid also star in the film alongside Hammer, whose Hollywood career was derailed in 2021 following multiple sexual assault allegations.

After being promoted by Musk and other right-wing figures, the film shot to number one on Amazon and Apple TV following Musk’s promotion, generating roughly $600,000 in revenue. Boll has since thanked Musk for promoting the film and called on President Donald Trump to watch it.

As for whether Hammer would return for the sequel that’s reportedly in early development, his team told Puck News it would take “life-changing money” because “everyone has a breaking point.”
