Canadian Beer Drinker Goes Viral With Legendary Interview About Country’s New Health Guidelines

Like many people who consume adult beverages on a regular basis, I’m always on the hunt for scientific studies and research papers highlighting the potential benefits of consuming beer, wine, and other types of alcohol in moderation.

With that said, those upsides have a tendency to take a backseat to the negative ramifications of making your liver do more work than it would likely prefer. As a result, most medical professionals would probably agree the healthiest amount of alcohol is “none at all.”

The powers that be at the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction basically said as much when they recently updated their consumption guidelines for the first time since 2012.

According to CTV News, experts at the organization authored a new report where they said the best way to avoid the health risks that come with imbibing is to limit yourself to two alcoholic drinks on a weekly basis (the outlet notes the advisory the CCSA previously issued 11 years ago suggested a “cap of 15 drinks for men and 10 drinks for women”).

While that might be the smart move, it’s not the most realistic approach for people who have a tendency to wind down with a drink or two on a typical day—and it’s safe to say it probably won’t do much to influence one Canadian man who went viral for all of the right reasons after he shared his thoughts on the matter during a “man on the street interview” with CHCH.

The interview was conducted outside of a store with the beer fan in question had just bought six tallboys of Busch Light and Bud Light. It’s safe to say he was caught very off-guard after the reporter told him about the new guidelines, as he visibly recoiled in shock after hearing about the two-a-week suggestion before saying, “Well that’s just not feasible—not in this country. Come on man, two drinks a week, what’s that gonna do for ya? That doesn’t even get you through a day.”

The local legend also tried to bargain a bit by suggesting he’d have less of an issue if he was told to limit himself to four drinks a week (although he admitted he’d still have at least six if that was the case). He also unleashed his Inner Libertarian by questioning why officials should dictate how much booze he drinks in his own home (although it’s worth stressing the guidelines are simply that).

You owe it to yourself to watch the entire clip thanks to the very unexpected manner in which it ends, as I guarantee you will not be prepared for the Richard Nixon-inspired parlor trick involving a fake tooth that takes an already entertaining interview to a whole new level.
