Man Orders Whiskey And Coke At Las Vegas Casino. Then He Asks What Type Of Whiskey They Comp: ‘Ooh…’

You’d think ordering a drink at a bar would be pretty straightforward. But talk to any bartender long enough, and they’ll probably have more than a few patron stories that made them stop and blink.

TikTok creator and Las Vegas-based bartender Marti (@martiii_soulll) has one of those accounts. In a recent video that got over 2,262 views, she shared a story of a customer interaction that left her extremely confused.

What Was So Confusing About This Drink Order?

Marti says a couple came and sat down at her bar, so she went over to greet them.

“I’m like, ‘Hey guys, how are you? Can I get you anything?'” she recalls.

At first, neither of them seemed ready to order. “The wife is like, ‘Oh, I don’t really know if I know what I want yet, can I get a couple minutes?’” Marti says.

The husband said he wasn’t sure either, but changed his mind. “He’s like, ‘You know what, actually, I know what I want. Can I get a whiskey and Diet?'” she recounts.

Because the couple was gambling, he then asked what kind of whiskey the casino usually comps.

“I’m like, ‘Typically it’s gonna be Jack. That’s our house,'” Marti told him.

The husband didn’t seem thrilled with that answer, so Marti asked if he preferred another type of whiskey. “He’s like, ‘Yeah, it’s just Jack is like really sweet, so I don’t really like that.'”

She says she asked if he’d prefer a different type of alcohol when he hit her with the confusing order.

“You know what, actually, yeah, can I just do a piña colada?” he told her.

“What?” she says. “So confused.”

Though she felt caught off guard, she says she kept it professional and said she could make the drink, but with one catch.

“The only thing is I don’t have a blender,” she says. “It’s gonna be on the rocks.”

That seemed to give the husband pause. After thinking it over, he went back to the original order.

“So Jack’s OK?” she asked him. “Yeah, it’ll be fine,” he responded.

“The Jack is sweet, but the piña colada…” she ponders. “I didn’t say anything. I gave him his drink, but I was silently judging.”

Viewers Had The Same Question

In the comments section, viewers ran with the jokes.

“Sour mash is too sweet, can I have sugar water instead?” one user joked. “My wife doesn’t know I drink. Thanks.”

“What beers you got? Oh ok I’ll take a jamo,” another wrote. “Like huh?”

One commenter pointed to this being a Las Vegas issue. “No this season of tourists is different in a bad way,” they wrote. “I’m a MUA in Vegas and I swear my clients got stupider. And I don’t say that lightly.”

Is Jack Daniel’s Actually Sweet?

If someone likes the taste of premium whiskey, it’s possible that a bottle like Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 may taste too sweet or too simple to them. This bottle is usually stocked in bars and has notes of caramel, vanilla, oak, banana, and a little charcoal or smoke. It’s a specific taste, and people either like it or they don’t.

On Reddit’s r/whiskey, one user put it this way: “In my opinion ur basic number 7 jack is sweet and lacks any complexity. It’s a great starter whisky and best coke mix. But it’s really just sweet. There are high end options for Jack and those are amazing. Barrel proof is one of my top favorites.”

A piña colada, on the other hand, is supposed to be sweet. That’s kind of the whole point of the drink.

So it’s possible the customer didn’t have a problem with sweetness in general. He may have just had a problem with the specific Jack Daniel’s sweetness.
