Jason Segel has a "dream" of making follow up to 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall'
Jason Segel has largely been a TV star in recent years as his AppleTV series Shrinking alongside Harrison Ford has been a massive success for the streaming service. The longtime How I Met Your Mother actor has a dream about making a Forgetting Sarah Marshall sequel movie made, though.
Not only did Jason Segel recently detail his long-running “dream” of making a Forgetting Sarah Marshall sequel about the Dracula puppet show his character Peter Bretter puts on. Segel wrote and starred in Forgetting Sarah Marshall , widely considered to be one of the best comedies of its era.
Jason Segel says he and his collaborators have been “talking about” a Forgetting Sarah Marshall sequel and are “getting there”
The Knocked Up and I Love You, Man star — who has long expressed a desire in making the Dracula puppet rock opera as a musical sequel — said in an interview during a red carpet event for Shrinking at the Newport Beach TV Fest that he and his creative collaborators have been “talking about it” and that they’re “getting there.”
“We have been talking about it, I will tell [you]. That’s all I can say. Yeah, every once in a while, I get an itch, and I get my puppet, because I have him, and I go perform live somewhere. But I still dream of doing that musical. I have an idea for how to do it, too. So, we’re getting there,” told The Direct.
Alongside Segel, Forgetting Sarah Marshall also starred Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Bill Hader, Jonah Hill, and Russell Brand. The film follows on Segel’s Peter Brenner after his TV girlfriend, played by Bell, publicly cheats on and breaks up with him.
Seeking to heal and unplug, Brenner heads to a Hawaii resort — a resort that his ex and her new boyfriend are also staying at. Along the way, he falls for the charming hotel concierge, memorably played by Kunis.
In addition to Shrinking, which was renewed by AppleTV for a fourth season earlier this year, also recently starred in the action comedy thriller Over Your Dead Body, and has upcoming roles in films such as Anxious People and Sponsor.
