Kit Harington recently revealed that the Game of Thrones cast did not stay in touch after the series came to a close. Harington says this is because they “just had to move on with life.”
While it’s unclear whether or not he meant it this way, Game of Thrones fans have interpreted Kit Harington’s comments — which he made while speaking to Peter Dinklage for Variety’s Actors on Actors series — as the cast being so scarred by the disastrous eighth and final season of the show that they couldn’t even face each other.
Kit Harington says the Game of Thrones cast did not keep in touch because the “magic was gone” and they had to “get on with life”
“[I kept in touch with Emilia Clarke], yes, because she’s just down the road. But I think there’s an element of school leavers to it. We finished the thing, the magic is gone and everyone has to separate. But I do text John [Bradley] and Richard [Madden], and I’m still in touch with Alf [Allen],” Harington said. “I think we were all quite desperate — we just had to get on with life. We had so much time together that actually, we needed some [space].”
“We still have all those AI photos online of all of us still together at barbecues… Apparently alternate universe versions of us all still together at barbecues,” Dinklage retorted.

During its first 6 seasons, Game of Thrones was in the conversation for being one of the greatest shows ever made. Its hurried final two seasons, particularly Season 8, left such a bad taste in fans’ mouths that its legacy has largely been tainted and is dominated by complaints about how it came to a close.
While Harington may not be in touch with the Game of Thrones cast, he has stayed in business with HBO as he’s starred as Henry Muck in Season 3 & 4 of its hit financial thriller series Industry.
