Kourtney Kardashian said her “body never looked better” than when she was on the keto diet. But that was two and a half years ago. Now, Kourtney is returning to the ketogenic diet to improve her health.

Kardashian just turned 40-years-old in April and she is looking for a way to stay trim over the summer. The Kardashian sister admitted that she has been “treating” herself lately with some unhealthy habits but she really wants to get back on track. So she has committed herself to keto for the next month.

Kourtney said she plans to go back to a meal plan that is high-fat and high-protein while focusing on low-carb and low-sugar foods. Kourtney announced on her blog Poosh that she was dedicating to going back to keto.

“My body never looked better than when I did the keto diet two and half years ago, when I did it for two months,” Kourtney said in the post. “In my experience, I’ve found the best method to train my body to curb sugar cravings, burn fat, and kick-start weight loss is by sticking to a keto diet.”

“My doctor actually put me on the keto diet a couple of years ago for a metal detox,” Kourtney said. “He tested my muscles and found that I had high levels of mercury and lead in my system. He let me know that one of the fastest ways to detox was to keep my body in a state of ketosis. I would check my blood sugar and ketone levels every morning to make sure I was on track.”

Kardashian outlined her keto plan and she will eat three meals a day with little to no snacking in between. She will consume “minimal carbs and no grains, beans, or legumes,” but will focus on “fresh vegetables and lean proteins.”

Kourtney also said she will be utilizing intermittent fasting to help spur her body into ketosis. For Kourtney, she eats dinner by 7 PM and then won’t eat anything until breakfast around 11 AM, after her morning workout. When she first wakes up she has water mixed with collagen powder. Then she plans to do a 24-hour fast one day each week where she eats nothing for 24 hours and will only drink bone broth, water, and green tea.

“The basic idea behind ketosis is pretty simple—eat more fat and very few carbs,” the post stated. “Eating this way leads your body to go into a state of ketosis, which makes you burn your body fat for energy instead of carbohydrates that come from your food.”

Kourtney said there were certain foods that she would avoid because it would wreck her ketosis. Kourtney says she avoids processed foods, sugary foods, fruit juice, ice cream, grains, rice, pasta, cereal, fruit, beans, condiments, sauces, vegetable oils, alcohol, root vegetables such as potatoes, carrots and parsnips.

Kourtney’s typical keto food plan starts with an avocado smoothie for breakfast. For lunch, Kardashian will have a protein-based chef salad with turkey, a base of mixed greens, and egg whites.

For dinner, she generally has chicken or salmon along with cauliflower rice or broccoli rice because they “trick my brain and make me feel like I’m eating some carbs.” While she advocates not snacking while on the keto diet, she says she will have green tea or some bone broth to give her a boost. If you do need a mid-day pick-me-up, Kourtney suggests you eat nuts like walnuts or pecans.
