Mike McCarthy Is Desperately Trying To Pretend That Dak Prescott’s Interceptions Aren’t A Problem

Despite escaping Tenessee with a win over the quickly sinking Titans, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys looked anything but convincing over the course of their 27-13 Thursday Night Football Victory.

Prescott, who leads the league in interceptions since returning from injury earlier this season, tossed another two picks on Thursday night, which brought his total for the season up to 14.

Now, while Dallas might have a strong 12-4 record despite Dak’s struggles, there’s no denying that those picks will become a real problem come postseason time when every possession is truly priceless. Unless, of course, you’re Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, who does seem to be trying his hardest to pretend that Dak’s picks aren’t a big deal.

“I don’t agree with the word ‘rash,’ I mean we had two interceptions tonight. One was a drop and one was a minus decision. We’ll look at it and just keep coaching it,” McCarthy said to the media following the game.

“The answer is not to over-coach it or over-emphasize it. The goal is to be explosive on offense and the stats speak for themselves Whether we don’t get any style points, that’s OK. We’re still at 12 wins.” [via ProFootballTalk]

Prescott and the 12-4 Dallas Cowboys — currently a Wild Card team and the #5 seed in the NFC playoffs behind the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers — will close out their 2022 season against newly reinstalled starting QB Carson Wentz and the Washington Commanders.

If the regular season were to end today, the Cowboys would head to Florida to take on Tom Brady and the Bucs in the Wild Card round. Elsewhere in the NFC, the New York Giants and Washington Commanders are currently in line for the other two Wild Card berths.
