Who could have seen the breakup between Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande that went down a week ago? Well, everybody actually. But Pete Davidson is allegedly keeping a stiff upper lip after the split and has hope that he will get back with Ariana Grande in the future.

Page Six is reporting that friends of Davidson told the paper that the Saturday Night Live comedian is hoping that he will have a future with the pop singer despite the abrupt breakup a week ago.

“I talked to Pete a few days ago and he was joking again,” the friend of Davidson reportedly told Page Six. “He’s still in love with Ariana and sees a future with her.” But, at least for now, “He knows [the breakup] is for the best.” That makes perfect sense since he invested so many tattoos dedicated to Ariana and their pet teacup pig named “Piggy Smallz” on his body.

While Davidson is optimistic about a romantic reunion, it does not appear that Ariana feels the same way. The breakup does not appear to have affected the pop star in the least. She taped a performance of The Wizard and I from the Wicked Broadway show for the upcoming NBC special A Very Wicked Halloween only days after the split. During the taping, Grande covered up a tattoo with the word “Pete” that was dedicated to her former love with a band-aid.

Meanwhile, Davidson canceled a comedy gig last-minute due to “personal reasons” that he was set to headline last Wednesday.

The breakup was said to have been started because Ariana was critical of the lack of support Pete gave to her following the premature death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller on September 7th. “Ariana has been devastated and Pete couldn’t handle it,” a friend of Grande’s told The Sun. “She realized she needs a grown-up who can support her and that’s not him.”

Davidson seemed to have known that he was way out of his league by dating Ariana Grande because he joked on September 29th that they will break up. “God forbid we split up and she takes half my sneakers,” Davidson joked on SNL about getting a prenup. “If we break up, and we won’t — we will — but we won’t,” he joked, “but like in 10 years if, god forbid that ever happened, there will be a song called ‘Pete Davidson’ playing in speakers at Kmart and I’ll be working there.” Pete also joked that he switched Ariana’s birth control with Tic Tacs to “make sure that she can’t go anywhere.”

But what might be the nail in the coffin of the Grande/Davidson of any future relationship is that Ariana reportedly changed the locks to her opulent $16 million New York City pad immediately following the breakup. Who wants to tell Pete?

Radar Online reported that Grande changed the locks on her swanky 4,000-square-foot apartment in Chelsea that has five bedrooms, four and a half baths, and expansive views of the NYC skyline. The apartment complex, which is said to be one of the most exclusive in NYC, boasts an on-site juice bar, fitness facility, spa, and 75-foot indoor pool. The two were living together in the apartment only weeks after they started dating last May.

“Ariana has no plans to continue being friends with Pete,” Ariana’s friend allegedly told Radar. According to the friend, the split was “amicable” but it was Ariana who broke up with the SNL comedian. “If he had his way, he would still be with her,” the friend said.

“I never thought that relationship would last,” Davidson’s friend who is also a comedian told the New York Post. “I rooted for them, but it’s damn near impossible to have a serious relationship when you have everyone following your every move. He’s a private dude who feels more at home being on stage doing comedy in small clubs and being around close friends and family.”

“Pete’s a fighter,” said Davidson’s friend. “As long as he has time and patience, he will be fine. We are talking about someone who has dealt with his father passing away on 9/11 and has battled mental illness. He has been through a lot worse.”
