Post Malone is two stops into his BIG ASS Stadium Tour: Part 2. The crowd is much larger than the poor ticket sales suggested.
Although there are still a lot of empty seats on the 200 and 300 levels, there are not any gaping holes.
It will be interesting to see whether this concert attendance trend continues over the next few weeks. People need to buy tickets!!
Post Malone and Jelly Roll are still struggling to sell tickets.
If you have been following along with BroBible, you know that I have been obsessed with this story for months. As a big Post Malone fan, I was shocked by the extreme lack of ticket sales for his second stadium tour. Nearly every venue on the calendar was slated to sit 75%+ empty as of the end of April. It got to the point that Posty actually had to postpone or cancel the first few dates amid a bad case of ‘Blue Dot Fever.’
He claimed that the decision to cancel stemmed from his desire to release new music before his tour but we now know that was not true. The tour is underway. The new album ‘The Eternal Buzz’ has yet to drop. It’s on the way.
Even though there was a promise of new music, ticket sales did not improve during the month of May. The amount of listed seats on Ticketmaster presented a concerning reality as of June 3. A majority of the tour was not sold out. That is still the case today.
This is the current scene for East Hartford on June 22:

This is how it looks for Tampa on July 8:

Both of those graphics are concerning. I would even go so far to say that the lack of ticket sales is catastrophic. Neither of those two venues are in a position to host a concert. Nobody would be in the crowd…
Even though this problem is not specific to this tour, I am fascinated by the amount of unsold seats. What gives?
Maybe people are burned out on Post Malone’s country music era. Maybe people don’t like Jelly Roll. I really don’t know. I would assume the answer is much more simple. People aren’t willing to pay such a high price for concert tickets. It’s too expensive.
And yet, despite this concerning reality, each of the first two stops of the BIG ASS Stadium Tour: Part 2 were pretty well attended.
The crowd has been SO much better than expected.
Post Malone and Jelly Roll took over Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Night 1. The tour is a massive production.
Here is a great look at the crowd in Charlotte throughout the evening:
As you can see, the stadium was not at capacity. The concert was not sold out. There were quite a few empty seats. However, it was not anywhere near as bad as the blue dots on Ticketmaster suggested and it was on a school (work) night.
The tour stop in Indianapolis served as a better barometer. It took place on Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Here is a great look at the introduction to Posty’s set:
You can still see a few empty seats in the background.
Especially in the 200 and 300 sections.
But most of the stadium was full!
Post Malone even took a moment to admire the amount of people who did show up.
I would imagine it was, in part, a huge sigh of relief after months of stress over ticket sales. The crowd has been so much better than I expected. Sponsors must be happy so far. The turnout for Charlotte and Indianapolis was pretty solid.
But will this trend continue? Ticket sales are still concerning for the upcoming dates. Stay tuned.
