Morgan Wallen’s Rowdy Florida Sellout Proves Post Malone Tour Is In Jeopardy With Awful Ticket Sales

Post Malone and Morgan Wallen are on very different trajectories in terms of ticket sales. The latter just sold out two nights at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Florida. The former is at risk of canceling his entire tour.

Posty and Jelly Roll are in big trouble.

To be fair, they are not the only country music artists to suffer from this severe case of ‘Blue Dot Fever.’ Nor is this problem exclusive to one genre. There are a lot of different artists and bands bailing on shows!

Morgan Wallen packed out two stadium shows.

Now matter how hard or how often people try to cancel him, Morgan Wallen just keeps coming back. He is the No. 1 artist in country music right now. You could make an argument that Ella Langley is just as big or bigger, but she quite literally just opened for him in Tuscaloosa. So…

Wallen embarked on his ‘Still The Problem’ tour at the beginning of April. The 33-year-old will make stops in Minneapolis, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Gainesville, Denver, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Baltimore, Ann Arbor and Philadelphia. Every stop (except for Alabama) is for back-to-back nights. Two nights, one city.

As far as I can tell, all 21 shows are completely sold out. There was not a single empty seat at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for the first of two nights in Florida on Friday. The home of the Florida Gators, which seats a maximum capacity of ~85,000/90,000, was packed to the gills. Standing room only.

The sold-out crowd went absolutely bonkers when Wallen walked out with Tim Tebow.

They even did a sing-a-long to ‘Won’t Back Down’ by Tom Petty, as is tradition.

You get the idea. Morgan Wallen is not having any problem filling every seat.

Post Malone and Jelly Roll are not selling tickets.

On the other side of the spectrum is the BIG ASS Stadium Tour Part 2. Posty and Jelly were supposed to embark on their joint tour on May 13. However, they were forced to cancel their first six stops because absolutely nobody was going to be there.

As things currently stand, a majority of their “Big Ass Stadiums” are going to be 75% empty. That includes the stop in Nashville, where BigXThaPlug will fill in for Jelly Roll. It does not matter who is on the bill. Tickers aren’t selling.

Post Malone and Jelly Roll are currently (re)scheduled to begin their tour on June 9. They chose to wait until after Posty dropped his new album with hope that it will generate more buzz. We’ll see.

Regardless of what happens with their tour, they are not the only ones with this problem. The Pussycat Dolls, Meghan Trainor and Zayn were also forced to cancel multiple tour dates because of ‘Blue Dot Fever.’ Blue Dot Fever reflects the large amount of unsold seats on Ticketmaster’s website.

LiveNation president and CFP Joe Berchtold claims it is not a problem..

“I give credit to the scalpers. It’s a good marketing program they have. I think [the ‘Blue Dot Fever’ panic] is heavily driven by scalpers who are frustrated by the fact that artists are much more effectively pricing tours. They want to try to scare them that if they continue to price their tours efficiently, ‘Oh, you’re not going to sell tickets, it’s going to be embarrassing.’”

My eyes tell me otherwise. Artists like Post Malone and Jelly Roll are struggling to sell tickets. Meanwhile, a guy like Morgan Wallen is selling out football stadiums for back-to-back nights. There is a clear problem for one and not the other.
