15 ‘PUBG’ Hackers Arrested And Fined $5 Million For Selling Cheating Programs

In October, there was an eye-opening report that up to 20,000 cheaters were being banned from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds every single day. Being banned is a slap on the wrist compared to the punishment that hackers and cheaters were handed down last week.

On April 25th, 15 suspects were arrested for developing and selling hacking and cheating programs that affect PUBG. Some of these malicious programs were Trojan horse software that were able to steal user information. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Bluehole released an update on their ongoing war against cheating on Steam. Besides being arrested, the hackers were also fined $5.1 million.

“We’ve also been continuously gathering information on hack developers (and sellers) and have been working extensively with multiple partners and judicial authorities to bring these people to justice,” the statement said. “It was proven that hack developers used this virus to control users’ PC, scan their data, and extract information illegally.”

“We’ll continue to crack down on hacking/cheating programs (and their creators) until our players are free to battle it out in a totally fair environment,” Bluehole said. BattlEye, a third-party anti-cheat company who oversees PUBG‘s proactive protection system, said they banned over 1,044,000 cheaters in January alone.

On Wednesday, May 2nd, Bluehole will shut down the video game’s servers for maintenance and a major update. Update #12 arrives at 10 PM ET and is expected to last approximately four hours. The update will introduce the new SLR gun to the game and the new Mirado, a four-seat car. New attachments include the duckbill for shotguns, several grips, and two scopes. Plus the update will allow gamers to choose which map they’d prefer to be matched up on and equalize the damage done by weapons. You can read about Update #12 HERE.
