There have been moments in life when I thought I might have the testicular fortitude to wrangle a rattlesnake like the legendary Steve Irwin used to. And then I hear that rattle from a rattler’s tail and it’s a bit like that Mike Tyson quote… ‘Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.’

If you’ve never heard a rattlesnake’s rattle up close it triggers an ancient and primal fear in most people that sends every ‘danger’ signal your brain has into overload. Then there are snake wranglers like Bruce Ireland (below) in San Diego who are able to shut off that primal fear and act professionally in the face of danger.

This recent video uploaded to TikTok and Instagram shows how a seemingly docile encounter with a rattlesnake in SoCal turned into complete and utter chaos in an instant. Let this be a reminder that you should always call a professional to remove a rattlesnake before taking any action yourself because these snakes are FAST when they want to be.

I included both videos because sometimes I’ll get emails from you guys saying one or the other didn’t load on your phone or computer. So I try and give you as many options as possible.

After watching that rattlesnake clip above, I went snooping around that snake wrangler’s YouTube channel. Here is his most popular video to date. It’s from 1 year ago and has 67 million videos!

An Absolute Unit Of A Snake

That noise seriously triggers something primal in me. Maybe it’s because I’ve encountered a few rattlesnakes in the wild in my lifetime and feared for my life because they were so close.

Or maybe it’s the millions of years of evolution telling me that sound means ‘DANGER’ and ‘GFTO NOW’…
