When it comes to dating, certain women have certain expectations. However, by having no car and lying about it, this TikToker ended up digging an even deeper hole for himself, as well as a hefty Turo bill.
In the viral clip, which has garnered 1 million views, Wunder (@wunderr_) said, “I’ve been dating this girl for two months and I’ve been hiding the fact that I don’t have a car ’cause every single time we hang out I just rent a car off Turo. But shawty wanna go on a date tomorrow, and I get on Turo and see the car not available. Who using the car? I use the same car every single time. Now what am I supposed to do?”
Meanwhile, on-screen text read, “I’ve been lying to the girl I’m dating about having a car, but now I might get caught smh.”
BroBible reached out to Wunderr and Turo via email.
How Did Commenters React?
Some commenters implored the TikToker to be honest. “Honestly tell her,” one wrote. “It shows your effort!” one wrote.
“That’s a sign you gotta tell her the truth gang,” a second added.
Others were highly amused by the whole situation.
“But you DO have a car,” a third insisted. “Whenever you need a car, you have one. Manifest with your words.”
While a fourth suggested, “Tell her ya car in the shop and that’s a rental.”
And a fifth wrote, “Damn, that’s actually dedication. ‘If he wanted to, he would.'”
Did He Expose Himself?
Wunderr ended up making two follow-up videos.
The first consisted of a tense phone conversation between him and a woman.
“Why did you lie?” the woman asked.
“I didn’t lie I just understood-” Wunderr replied, before the woman chimed in, saying, “You did lie because you said you had a car this whole time and apparently you didn’t.”
To which Wunderr said, “Technically, I did have a car. When it was time to have a car, I had a car.”
“But it’s not yours, but you was lying this whole time,” she retorted.
While Wunderr shot back, saying they still got from A to B regardless, the woman started calling him “broke” and a “brokie.”
“I like somebody who has a house, their own money, their car …” she said.
Wunderr added, “That’s why I didn’t tell you, ’cause I knew you was gonna act like that.”
And in response, the woman said she didn’t want to talk to him anymore.
“Just ’cause I lied about having a car, you don’t wanna talk to me?” Wunderr asked.
“Yeah, yeah,” the woman said.
On-screen text read: “For 2 months I lied to the girl I was dating about having a car and finally I got caught.”
In the second follow-up, Wunderr revealed that a woman reached out to him and invited him to Miami. She said not to worry about a car—she has plenty. In response, Wunderr said he appreciates her, and the woman responded, imploring him to think about it.
“We can’t get took y’all, so if I go down y’all gonna go down with me,” Wunderr said. “We is all in this together. So is we going to Miami or not?”
As for the on-screen text, it read: “Sugar momma tryna fly me out to Miami and I’m actually considering it for the plot.”
@wunderr_ Like what are the odds?? The car is neverrrr booked🤦🏽♂️ #relatable #viraltiktok #relationships
Is Not Having A Car A Dating Red Flag?
The dating blog Bolde lists several reasons why a man without a car can be considered a red flag. The first is that he either has no money or is irresponsible with the money he does have. Secondly, the blog says it signals that the man isn’t ready for a long-term commitment, because if he can’t commit to a car, why would he commit to you?
Other “red flags,” based on the lack of a car, include the idea that he’s mooching, that he’s indecisive, that he doesn’t have clear goals, that it could lead to controlling behavior, the chance that he probably won’t take care of your car, that he “talks a good game,” and that he’s unsure of himself.
Based on this, in terms of first date behavior, it’s probably best that you don’t lie about having a car. In fact, it may backfire horribly and may well be one of the worst things you could say.
