You don’t have to live in Los Angeles to know the city is a hotbed for high-speed police chases, and news stations in the region routinely dispatch helicopters to cover members of the LAPD pursuing suspects through the streets. However, we were recently treated to a decidedly low-speed chase courtesy of a guy in a golf cart trying to flee the cops with a dog in tow.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve been treated to some pretty strange scenes courtesy of police chases that unfolded in The City of Angels, including one where authorities spent minutes trying to track down a fleeing man who was hiding in plain sight after bailing from his vehicle and another where a guy attempted to surrender but casually walked away after no one from the LAPD showed up to arrest him.

Now, O.J. Simpson obviously set the bar when it comes to low-speed chases that have taken place on the streets of L.A., but one man did what he could to come close thanks to what went down on Monday night.

According to KTLA, police in the San Fernando Valley received a call at around 9 P.M. concerning an unnamed man who allegedly stole a golf cart reserved for security guards at a shopping center in the area.

Multiple outlets and bystanders captured footage of the shirtless man holding a dog in his lap while piloting the golf cart that had trouble going faster than 20 MPH as he led the LAPD on a chase that lasted for around 30 minutes and saw him travel around 10 miles before he unsuccessfully attempted to make a run for it and was apprehended in a parking lot near Oxnard Street and Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

Fox11 was kind enough to upload a lengthy video chronicling the bulk of the ordeal for your viewing pleasure.

The outlet reports the man was arrested and charged with robbery and grand theft auto (the LAPD states he also had a warrant out for assault with a deadly weapon). The dog, on the other hand, was taken into the custody of police officers who transported it to an animal shelter.
