As the entertainment industry exponentially expands, so does its constant coverage — blogs, podcasts, YouTube shows, and magazines to cover every episode, casting announcement, trailer, and movie release that happens during the course of the week.
Add in all of those “New On Netflix This Week” articles out there and the influx of information for the average pop culture nerd can become overwhelming.
But what if someone fixed that? What if someone compiled all of the must-see trailers, all of the trendiest rumors, all of the pending release dates, all of the most-fuego latest gear into one easy-to-consume article?
What if the hero we deserve and the hero we need is actually just a weekly entertainment newsletter?
Wonder no more, because The Hot Box Office is here.

Throwback Watch of the Week
Sherlock Holmes
Official Synopsis: “When a string of brutal murders terrorizes London, it doesn’t take long for legendary detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his crime-solving partner, Dr. Watson (Jude Law), to find the killer, Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong). A devotee of the dark arts, Blackwood has a bigger scheme in mind, and his execution plays right into his plans. The game is afoot when Blackwood seems to rise from the grave, plunging Holmes and Watson into the world of the occult and strange technologies.”
Our Review: While Robert Downey Jr. is largely (and rightfully) recognized as the centerpiece of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the past 10 yars, he also portrayed another iconic, franchise-building character a decade ago in Sherlock Holmes. Now, with a third film in the franchise finally confirmed and set to be released in 2021, it’s worth going back to check out the original, which is yet another testament to the practically unrivaled movie star charisma of RDJ (not counting Leo and Brad, of course). It’s also one of Guy Ritchie’s slickest and most entertaining films to date.
Netflix Gem of the Week
Burn After Reading
Official Synopsis: “When a disc containing memoirs of a former CIA analyst (John Malkovich) falls into the hands of Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand) and Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt), the two gym employees see a chance to make enough money for her to have life-changing cosmetic surgery. Predictably, events whirl out of control for the duo doofuses and those in their orbit”
Our Review: Although not everyone’s cup of tea when it comes to its humor, Burn After Reading is a classic Coen Brothers affair that will strike the funny bone of anyone who appreciates their work. Plus, the cast is absolutely stacked with talent, including the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Richard Jenkins, and J.K. Simmons.
